Arpa di Apollo

Small diatonic baroque harp

17th. century

Eight years ago Rainer M. Thurau decided to prove that small baroque harps could very well have been existing and will have found their place in a small music chambre of noble homes as an occasionally played instrument. His design concentrated on a delicate High Baroque harp which could have corresponded to this period early 18th c. in terms of its architectural style, with a narrow lute-style sound box, as well as its coloring and corresponding decorations.A small baroque harp can produce a baroque character only if the strings in the treble have a certain vibrating length and if the mood and tonal range allows baroque music. This was painstakingly taken into account during the design. It seems that such a harp has never been recreated in modern times. The sound is sustaining and very beautiful. The harp is even ready to add half-tone hooks which came in fashion at the time
