Persian Harp
After an illustration in the”Book of Games” of Alfonso X el Sabio (1283)
7th. century / 13th century
Reconstruction by Rainer M. Thurau on behalf of the museum of the “Institute for the History of Islamic-Arabic Sciences” in Frankfurt, Germany, using a description of the building from a Persian script from the 13th century.
Only original materials were used:
- Body: Wood of the apricot tree (import from Turkey)
- Soundboard: Goat’s skin
- Stringbar: Wood of the walnut tree
- Strings: Strings of braided silk (import from China)
